Great New Zealand wines come from the Central Otago region. A spectacular landscape and a sophisticated tourist culture, it also produces some of the best Pinot Noir wines in New Zealand, and indeed the world. All of the main wine growing areas are in close proximity to each other, with the distinctly mountainous terrain giving each area a unique climate, exposure and altitude.
Pinot Noir flourishes here in the very south of New Zealand, with a variety of stunning expressions produced in the numerous sub-regions. The region is also known for producing excellent aromatic wines, primarily from the Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc grape varieties. Central Otago is also a stronghold of tourism and boasts a wide range of excellent winery facilities and wine tourism activities.
