Whitehaven Wines
Marlborough New Zealand
The dream of owning a winery came true
Whitehaven Wines was founded in 1994 in the Marlborough wine region near Blenheim. There, the two founders Sue and Greg White had found their personal oasis of peace when they anchored their sailing yacht Chanticleer in the Marlborough Sounds to seek shelter from impending hurricanes. The young couple had previously decided to swap their business clothes for sailing suits in order to conquer the world together with daughter Samantha. The symbol of this carefree time at sea is the anchor, which together with the family name defines the logo of Whitehaven Wines and adorns the wine bottles. The successful family business is still managed by Sue White. She is supported by her daughter Samantha and her husband Josh Barclay, the next generation of winemakers.

The pursuit of uncompromising quality
Sue White and her team have a clear philosophy of quality. From the vineyard to bottling, craftsmanship, continuity and sustainability play a central role. The result is award-winning premium wines from New Zealand. They are produced from one hundred percent regional grapes and reflect the typical Marlborough terroir. The Whitehaven Wines Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and the Sauvignon Blanc Greg are outstanding. This New Zealand single-vineyard wine is produced in memory of Greg White from the best grapes from Whitehaven Wines’ top parcels. The wines from the Kōparepare series, the project close to Samantha White’s heart, represent the family’s environmental awareness and commitment to the conservation of New Zealand’s natural resources. Part of the sales proceeds go to the non-profit association LegaSea, which fights tirelessly to protect the sea and supports local fishermen.
Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc – wine with world fame
Marlborough, New Zealand’s largest wine region with around 24 thousand hectares, is located in the north-eastern corner of the South Island. Over hundreds of years, an extensive river system has deposited deep alluvial soils of sand and gravel, giving Marlborough wines from New Zealand a wonderful minerality. Whitehaven Wines has vineyards in all three of the region’s important wine-growing zones: the Wairau Valley, the Awatare Valley and the Southern Valleys. Bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the east and protective mountain ranges to the west, north and south, Marlborough is one of the sunniest and driest areas in the country. Cool breezes from the sea and large day-night temperature fluctuations, however, ensure an extended, slow ripening period. They give these New Zealand wines, especially the Marlborough Sauvignon Blancs, their typical, expressive aromas and invigorating freshness.
