No.1 family estate

marlborough – New Zealand

From Champagne to Marlborough

Daniel Le Brun comes from the village of Monthelon in the French champagne region. He came to New Zealand in 1975 in search of suitable land for the development of Method Champenoise vineyards. The family of Daniel, who was in the 12th generation champagne, has been producing champagne since 1648, and still does today. Father Rene, brother Jean-Claude and sister Isabel all produce in Champagne under their own labels. In July 1999, Daniel founded his fully family-owned winery No.1 Family Estate, which uses the same processes perfected by its champagne family in France over the last 12 generations. The winery has been equipped with state-of-the-art processing equipment imported from Champagne. The children of Daniel Le Brun and his wife Adele, Virginie and Remy have long been integrated into the company. Virginie is a well-known actress in New Zealand and is also involved in the marketing of the wine. Remy is just finishing his bachelor’s degree in viticulture and oenology and runs the winery in Marlborough. He will be the Be the 13th generation of winemakers of the Le Brun family.

Méthode Traditional becomes Méthode Marlborough

With the growing reputation of the No.1 Family Estate also grew the number of friends and colleagues who produce fine Méthode traditional wines in Marlborough. Méthode Marlborough, a group of 10 highly respected Marlborough producers, was founded to ensure the quality and heritage of Marlborough’s finest Méthode traditional. All Méthode Marlborough wines follow strict criteria: they must be produced exclusively from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier grown in Marlborough as a blend or alone. These are the varieties that are considered the benchmark for champagne and méthode traditional producers around the world. Méthode Marlborough wines must follow the traditional method of second fermentation in the bottle, followed by tapping and maturation on the yeast for at least 18 months before being disgorged. The production of sparkling wines remains focused on the family winery and will always be a limited edition, which allows the attention to detail and the use of only first-class grapes. Numerous international awards prove the quality of the No. 1 sparkling wines and are a recognition of the successful company philosophy of the Le Brun family.
