Amisfield Sauvignon Blanc – A Central Otago Sauvignon Blanc in a class of its own

The grapes for the Amisfield Sauvignon Blanc were harvested parcel by parcel within two weeks. The decisive factor for the harvest time was the physiological ripeness, i.e. the flavour and aroma profile of the grapes. The grapes were harvested by hand and partly by machine. The individual parcels were destemmed and fermented separately at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts. A small proportion was fermented in barrels and blended for a creamier texture. The Amisfield winery is located in Central Otago on New Zealand’s South Island and today specialises in Pinot Noir and aromatic white wines. The majority of Amisfield’s Sauvignon Blanc vines are planted on shallow, sandy loam soils on the gently sloping terrace above the winery. A small proportion is located on the more fertile plains further down.

And this is how Amisfield Sauvignon Blanc tastes

The 2023 Amisfield Sauvignon Blanc has an intense aroma of ripe passion fruit and more subtle, delicate flavours of lemongrass, fennel and elderflower. The wine shows great concentration and power, with a structured mid palate framed by juicy, bright acidity. Most of the fruit was fermented cool in stainless steel, with a small proportion of barrel-fermented wine providing texture. A noble Sauvignon Blanc from Central Otago, New Zealand, powerful and full of finesse and with a long, mineral-herbal finish.
