Amisfield Pinot Noir Rosé – characterful rosé from Central Otago

The grapes for the Amisfield Pinot Noir Rosé come from the silty Waenga loam soils of the lower terraces close to the winery. They are characterised by bright berry aromas and a light tannin profile. After harvesting, the grapes were cold-soaked for around 4 hours before the colourful juice was pressed from the skins. This was then cold-fermented with selected aromatic yeasts. The finished wine was then left on the fine lees before being bottled early to capture the flavours and vibrancy.

And this is how the Amisfield Pinot Noir Rosé tastes

The 2023 Amisfield Pinot Noir Rosé beguiles the nose with a whole basket of fresh summer berries. They literally jump out of the glass. The palate reveals flavours of strawberries, pomegranates and watermelon. The juicy acidity is well balanced by the intensity of the flavour. The finish is savoury, long-lasting and dry. A great rosé from the south end of New Zealand. Great as a soloist on a summer terrace and as a serious accompaniment to food.

And the Amisfield Pinot Noir Rosé goes well with these dishes

The Amisfield Pinot Noir Rosé is a versatile companion for a wide range of dishes due to its character traits:

Light starters and salads:

Caprese salad: The simplicity of tomatoes, mozzarella and fresh basil with a drizzle of olive oil and balsamic harmonises wonderfully with the freshness of New Zealand rosé.

Seafood salad: A light salad of prawns, crab or mussels, dressed with a lemon vinaigrette, can emphasise the fruity notes of the wine from New Zealand.

Seafood:

Grilled prawns or scallops: the sweetness of the seafood goes well with the subtle fruit flavours of the New Zealand wine.

Salmon: Whether smoked or roasted, the rich texture of the salmon is balanced by the freshness of the Amisfield Pinot Noir Rosé.

Poultry and meat dishes:

Chicken or turkey in light sauces: Dishes such as chicken in a lemon-herb marinade or turkey with a cranberry reduction can go well with the flavours of this dry rosé from New Zealand.

Light pasta and risotto dishes: Pasta dishes with a tomato sauce or a risotto with spring vegetables are excellent accompaniments.

Vegetarian options:

Vegetable quiche: A quiche with a mixture of summer vegetables such as courgettes, tomatoes and aubergines fits seamlessly into the profile of this fresh rosé wine from New Zealand.

Grilled vegetables: Roasted or grilled vegetables such as peppers, aubergines and courgettes can bring out the flavours in this Central Otago wine.

Cheese:

Soft cheese: Cheeses such as Brie, Camembert or a fresh goat’s cheese are excellent options, as their creamy texture harmonises well with the structure and acidity of this rosé.

Light and fruity desserts:

Fruit tartes or sorbets: A simple strawberry or raspberry sorbet or a tart with fresh fruit can be a nice addition to the end of a meal with rosé.
