Longview Fresco – An Australian Vino Novello at its finest

The Longview Fresco is inspired by the typical young table wines from Italy. These are usually matured classically, i.e. in stainless steel tanks. This Australian red wine is an exciting blend of Nebbiolo (37.5%), Pinot Nero (35.5%), Barbera (16%) and Dolcetto (11%). Nebbiolo makes up the majority of the blend. It contributes to the tannic structure and amazing fragrance, while the other three grape varieties contribute acidity, lift and juiciness. All the grapes were harvested by hand during the coolest part of the day and brought to the winery immediately to preserve the fruit aroma. Nebbiolo and Barbera were fermented as whole berries to minimize tannin extraction. All varieties were cold fermented separately and left on the fine lees. They then all underwent natural malolactic fermentation, which is crucial for moderating the acidity of some varieties. Bottling took place on October 27, 2021.

Taste Unveiled: Exploring the Flavor Profile of the Fresco from Longview Vineyards

On the nose, the Longview Fresco seduces with intense notes of fresh cherries, red berries and roses, underlaid with herbal-spicy notes of cloves and aniseed, hints of minerality and earthy tones. On the palate, it is medium-bodied and well-structured, with a core of cherries and strawberries, wrapped in piquant spice and hints of minerality. The tannins are fine-grained, the acidity delicate and balanced. A very fresh and accessible wine for immediate enjoyment.

With its medium body, Longview Fresco goes well with a variety of cured meats, salami and other charcuterie products. It also pairs well with olives and hard cheeses. The distinctive acidity of Fresco goes well with pasta dishes with tomato sauces. Try it with classics such as spaghetti bolognese or pasta with marinara sauce. The fruitiness and acidity of this Australian red wine can complement the flavors of grilled or roasted vegetables. Think of dishes such as grilled eggplants, roasted red peppers or vegetable kebabs.

The versatile and approachable character of Fresco makes it a good companion for pizza. Whether a Margherita pizza or one with different toppings, the light-footed wine from Australia is a delicious choice. The moderate tannins and acidity of Longview Fresco make it a good accompaniment to herb-roasted chicken. The wine complements the spicy flavors of the roasted meat. Its earthy and herbal notes pair well with the richness of a mushroom risotto. The acidity of the wine helps to balance the creamy texture of the dish.

This Australian wine also harmonizes well with pork dishes, especially with lean meats such as pork fillet. Consider preparations with herbs, mustard or fruit-based sauces.

Try it with grilled sausages, sausage and bean stew or pasta dishes with sausages. This Australian red wine also cuts a fine figure with hard cheeses such as Pecorino, Parmigiano-Reggiano or mature Gouda. The structure of the wine complements the firm texture of these cheeses.

The moderate tannins of Longview Fresco also make it a good accompaniment to simple beef dishes such as beef goulash, beef kebabs or grilled steak with a light seasoning.
