The Syrah Icon of Elephant Hill

One of the absolute top wines of Elephant Hill. Airavata means the king-god of elephants in the Hindu language. This exceptional Syrah is only produced in small quantities, is profound and very complex. The grape material, which comes from the Gimblett Gravels vineyard, has been very carefully harvested by hand. The subsequent fermentation in open fermentation vats made of oak took 2-3 weeks. The ageing of this extraordinary red wine then took place for 26 months in French oak barriques, of which 52 percent were new.

And this is how the Airavata Syrah from Elephant Hill tastes

On the nose, fine dark cherry and plum aromas beguile, accompanied by elderberry fruit and a subtle floral note. In addition, there are hints of pencil expression and smoky-spicy tones. On the palate, the Airavata Syrah is very harmonious, densely woven and with supple tannin. The cool fruit is supported by minerality and delicate acidity. The finish is long, animating and with peppery-spicy reverberation. This characterful red wine is already good to drink despite its youth and has a good storage potential.

2017 Elephant Hill Airavata Syrah

And that goes well with Elephant Hill’s Airavata Syrah

With its delicate fruit and peppery spice, the Airavata Syrah goes perfectly with short-fried or grilled meat. Especially with beef, lamb or game, it is the right partner.
