Opulent Chardonnay from the coast

Elephant Hill’s coastal Te Awanga vineyard, from which 80 percent of the grapes for this characterful wine come from, has been proven to be an excellent location for Chardonnay and other white varieties. Compared to the last three vintages, 2016 was much cooler. The chardonnay harvest began at the end of March. This was followed by whole grape pressing and fermentation with domestic (wild) yeasts. After minimal biological acid degradation, the wine matured for 12 months in small French oak barrels, about 26 percent of which were new. During maturation, the fine yeast was stirred up a few times.

And this is how the Reserve Chardonnay by Elephant Hill tastes

Seductive scent of yellow stone fruit, peach and nectarine, accompanied by hazelnut, vanilla and spicy oak aromas. Subtle hints of figs and citrus fruits. Very complex and inviting on the palate, powerful and finely concentrated, with creamy enamel and slightly mineral accents. A very elegant, opulent wine with a good drinking flow and a long, soothing reverberation.

2016 Elephant Hill Reserve Chardonnay

And that fits the Reserve Chardonnay of Elephant Hill

The Reserve Chardonnay of Elephant Hill is wonderful with hearty fish dishes, crustaceans and seafood. It is also a perfect accompaniment to dishes with white meat, poultry or veal, as well as mushroom dishes. We love it with sole fillets in beurre-blanc with white mushrooms.
