The Cape Winelands stretch from the rugged mountains and varied slopes of the coastal region to the open plains of the Klein Karoo, where viticulture takes place mainly in the river valleys. South Africa’s vineyards are mainly located in the Western Cape near the coast. Currently, about 92,067 hectares are cultivated with vines. The growing areas in the Cape Winelands are divided into officially demarcated geographical units, regions, districts and counties.
There are five regions in the Western Cape geographical unit – Breede River Valley, Cape South Coast, Coastal Region, Klein Karoo and Olifants River. Other five geographical units are: Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and Northern Cape. Wines from South Africa come from a total of 29 different districts and about 92 smaller districts. South Africa, is a diverse nation with many cultures and traditions, which has earned it the name Rainbow Nation. Equally diverse is the range of South African wines, which is gaining more and more attention and fans worldwide.
