The lighthouse under the Marlborough Rosés

Dave Clouston, founder of Black Cottage, spent a lot of time in Corsica and the South of France, where he produced fresh, crisp, dry, salmon-coloured rosé wines. Inspired by these types of wine, he created his own Rosé in Marlborough style. Here in the north of the South Island, the 2021 season was marked by dangerous spring frosts and a cold, wet flowering period. Since the summer was incredibly dry, the harvest was a little earlier. The quality of the grapes was outstanding. They produce wonderful red aromas in the Marlborough Rosé. Treated like a white wine in the cellar, the wine was given about eight weeks of yeast storage, which leads to the special texture and the strikingly mineral notes.

And this is how the Black Cottage Marlborough Rosé tastes

The rosé, which was mainly made of Pinot Noir, presents itself in the glass delicate salmon colors. It seduces with fine notes of sweet cherries, raspberries and spicy notes, underlaid with aromas of cranberries and a fresh sea breeze. This mineral-salty touch is almost a trademark of this attractive and stylish rosé wine from New Zealand. On the palate, the wine is very balanced and elegant, showing an invigorating melon fruit and hints of sorbet. The acidity is perfectly integrated and in the fruity finish there is again a hint of sea salt.

2021 Black Cottage Rosé

And the Black Cottage Marlborough Rosé goes well with that.

A wonderfully refreshing wine that is not only convincing as an aperitif, but is also an excellent accompaniment to fish and seafood. We also love vegetarian dishes, especially ratatouille and crisp, summery salads.
