Adamá – perfect expression of the Ribera del Duero
The exceptional Spanish wine Adamá of Proyectvs Sanctvs is produced only when the ripening conditions are optimal in each parcel of the vineyard in Quintana del Pidio. The Proyectvs Sanctvs team, around oenologist Ernesto Franco, is united by a passion for good wine. Uniform, homogeneous wines are not their thing. Instead, these viniculturalists aim to bring out the characteristics of the terroir and the individual vintage. This is how unique Spanish wines full of character are created in the heart of the Ribera del Duero. The name Adamá originally means “land”. It reflects the importance that the soil, as the origin of everything, has for this powerful wine from Spain. Adamá is made exclusively from the Tempranillo grape variety, also called “Tinto del País” in the Ribera del Duero.
The grape material comes from the best plots of the vineyards. The sedimentary soil there is mainly composed of layers of limestone and clayey sand. The vines are located at an average sea level of 850 meters. Their age ranges from 35 to 60 years. In order to protect them from frost and take advantage of the morning sun, they are oriented to the southeast. The climate in the region is continental, with Atlantic influence and an average annual temperature of 11 degrees Celsius. The average rainfall is about 475 millimeters per year. The excellent drainage of the soils and the perfect location protect the vineyards from spring frosts and from the dangerous northern winds. In summer, there is an ideal balance between the warmth of the day and the coolness of the night.
The manual harvest of the 2010 vintage took place on October 16 and 17, in 25 kilo boxes. The yield of the grape material from a total of 15 plots was around 3,800 kg per hectare. The subsequent 14-day maceration and fermentation of the grapes took place in stainless steel tanks. After malolactic fermentation, the wine began to age in new (50%) and used barrels (50%, second racking). The Spanish red wine aged for a total of 27 months in French oak barrels (55%) and American oak barrels (45%).
And this is how the Adamá of Proyectvs Sanctvs tastes
The garnet-red Adamá of Proyectvs Sanctvs beguiles with a multilayered fragrance of ripe blackberries and cassis underlaid with the fine toasted notes of the long barrique aging: cocoa, licorice, tobacco, toast, smoked bacon and vanilla. Subtle hints of white pepper and ink join in. On the palate, this noble Tempranillo is tightly woven and full-bodied, with plenty of fleshy melt and fruit extract. The tannin is ripe and supple, the acidity delicate and well supported. Despite its content and power, this is an incredibly elegant wine, with a long finish that is both delicately spicy and juicy. This powerful Spanish red wine is wonderfully ready to drink now, but has further cellaring potential until at least 2030.
